We are all aware of the seriousness of what happened, and that it could have been really worse. We will not explain here in detail why or how all the successive delays happened during production. We will not justify ourselves or return the responsibility as it could have been the case.

But simply says that the decision to make such an important event, our first festival, was made too late for the size of the teams we had. Most of the members had a daily work and prepared the festival on the evening and weekend. Those who followed us during the production of the event know that we didn’t spared on the amount of work done but it was the work of enthusiasts... more than true professionals.
In addition, communication was a failure as a whole, between organizers or on the field where different ways of communications were very problematic, but also with the volunteers and artists, all teams being caught by urgent production problems. Same for the teams of runners, those have been implemented from Friday only.

The lack of water was linked to a generator which was originally powerful enough for the number of showers and water already on the site. As we have more than doubled the number of showers and added some water, it was no longer sufficient and it took time to identify the problem, to pick up an additional generator and to put in place.
The catering was planned to be managed by a provider who leave us in the lurch three days before the start of the festival. We made an agreement with a stand and mobilized people to deal with this, which decreased our team.
Serious errors were committed which we took as to the fait accompli.

We had really small number of people at the gate on Friday night and Saturday 21 lunch time, the supplier decided by himself to cut the sound if he was not paid immediately. This decision caused a chain reaction at the level of the owner of the land, the group-generator provider and obviously security who all wanted be immediately paid for all of their service planned.
Since we had no more cash money available, a long negotiation began with all Portuguese providers. With cheques as a guarantee, it was possible to restart the event until the next day and then opinions changed several times and at the end, it was no longer an option to restart the event but only to pay if we wanted to be able to go out safely from the site. As the pressure and intimidation were growing, we have decided to secure the site and everybody by calling the police to come, with all in mind what had happened to the Shamanik in 2007.

As the police answered that they didn’t want to move on site, the Security Chief suggested to 3 of the organizers to follow him by car to go to the Police office directly. As 3 organizers were in the same vehicle, one of them was taken by the arm by security to get in the car of the Chief of security. They moved, pursued by angry people who thought about an escape from the organizers and have been starting attack violently the vehicle.
On the way, the security stopped at a service station instead of going to the police as agreed and asked this time cheques in a threatening manner. A new call was then passed to the police who finally came. The police said that they did not see where the problem was and left. After that, one of the organizers was had to sign a contract and another to give 15000 euros of cheques.
During this time, the owner took one of us and told him that his friends were at the hand of the security at the entrance of his land, that they were surrounded by people who wanted to hit them with stones and could not do anything for them. However, if he gave him all the money he had on him, he could go out of the place, saying to not return there after that.
The organizer then asked what would happen to the artists and festival-goers. The owner of the land replied that they would have no problem because he and Portuguese providers would resume the event and organize a free party. As long as it was possible, the organizer seek to ensure that the artists could really get out of the site until the owner told him that if he did not leave now,...

Finally, the last two organizers stayed behind to handle the people, volunteers and artists in anger. Helped by stands people and French providers as well as by some of the teams of the organizers who had been forced to leave the field under actual or fake threats, they did everything they could to make sure people didn’t lack of anything and were able to evacuate all people from site. They have also put back in place sound until the next day.

We are well aware that many people have helped us spontaneously by sympathy or solidarity and that too rarely, we were able to show them our recognition, too preoccupied with the problems that we had to deal with.
We thank all those who have supported and helped us with issues that they had not to carry, and especially all the volunteers planned or spontaneous, Rita and the booth Sana Cooking, Goache Family, Fabrice Crop Circle, Laser Impact, Sébastien Tekman, Neo, Hervé Morphonic. We also thank João and his runners, Suzanna, Diana and her team and all those and those which do not know the names....
Our ingratitude faced your gratitude, and beyond what we will do right now to fulfill our responsibilities, we wish Life will offer us the possibility to give back what you have given us with a lot of heart.
It is with a huge disappointment inside us, tiredness and stress accumulated, and the deep impression to have been manipulated that we have took these few days to respond officially.

We will gradually contact persons to whom we were personally committed to fulfill our responsibilities to the end.

Nous sommes tous conscients de la gravité de ce qu'il s'est passé, et que cela aurait pu être pire. Nous n'expliquerons pas ici dans les détails le pourquoi, ni le comment des retards successifs qu'a pris la production. Nous ne chercherons pas non plus à nous justifier ou à se renvoyer la responsabilité comme cela a pu être le cas.
Mais dire simplement que la décision de faire un événement de cette ampleur, notre premier festival en plus, a été prise trop tardivement pour la taille des équipes dont nous disposions. La plupart des membres avaient un travail quotidien et préparaient le festival le soir et le weekend. Ceux qui nous ont suivi pendant la production de l'événement savent que nous ne nous sommes pas épargnés sur la quantité de travail fourni mais c'était bien l’œuvre de passionnés, d'amateurs donc...plus que de professionnels.

De plus, la communication a été un échec dans son ensemble, que ce soit entre organisateurs ou sur le terrain où les différents moyens de communications passaient très mal. Mais aussi avec les bénévoles et les artistes, toutes les équipes s'étant faite happée par des problèmes urgents de production. Quant aux équipes de runners, elles n'ont été mise en place qu'à partir du vendredi.

Le manque d'eau était lié à un groupe électrogène qui était au départ suffisamment puissant pour le nombre de douches et de points d'eau déjà sur le site. Comme nous avons plus que doublé le nombre de douches et rajouté quelques points d'eau, il ne suffisait plus et cela a pris du temps d'identifier le problème, d'aller chercher un groupe électrogène supplémentaire et de le mettre en place.

Le catering devait être géré par un prestataire qui nous a fait faux bond trois jours avant le début du festival. Nous avons passé un accord avec un stand et mobilisé des gens pour s'occuper de cela, ce qui a diminué notre équipe.
De graves erreurs ont été commises dont nous avons pris la mesure que devant le fait accompli.

Nous avons fait très peu d'entrée le vendredi soir et le samedi 21 vers 12h00, le prestataire son a décidé de lui-même de couper le son s'il n'était pas payé immédiatement. Cette décision a provoqué une réaction en chaîne au niveau du propriétaire du terrain, du prestataire groupe-électrogène et bien évidemment de la sécurité qui souhaitaient tous être payés immédiatement de la totalité de leurs prestations.

Puisque nous n'avions plus d'argent, une longue négociation a commencé avec l'ensemble des prestataires portugais. Ayant des chèques à disposition, il était possible de relancer l'événement jusqu'au lendemain puis les avis ont changé plusieurs fois et à la fin, il n'était plus question de relancer l'événement mais uniquement de payer les prestations si nous voulions sortir indemnes du site. La pression et les intimidations montant, nous avons décidés de sécuriser le site et toutes les personnes présentes en appelant la police pour qu'elle vienne, en ayant tous en tête ce qui s'était passé au Shamanik en 2007.

Ne voulant pas se déplacer sur le site, le chef de la sécurité a proposé à 3 des organisateurs de le suivre en voiture pour aller au poste directement. Les 3 organisateurs étant dans le même véhicule, l'un d'entre eux s'est fait sortir par le bras par la sécurité pour aller dans la voiture du chef de la sécurité. Ils ont quitté le terrain poursuivi par des festivaliers en colère qui ont cru à une fuite et s'en sont pris violemment au véhicule des organisateurs.

En chemin, la sécurité s'est arrêtée à une station service au lieu d'aller à la police comme convenu et a demandé cette fois des chèques de façon menaçante. Un nouvel appel a alors été passée à la police qui est finalement venue. Les policiers ont dit qu'ils ne voyaient pas où était le problème et sont repartis. Après cela, un des organisateurs a été « contraint » de signer un contrat et un autre de laisser 15000 euros de chèques.

Pendant ce temps-là, le propriétaire a emmené l'un d'entre nous à part et lui a dit que ses amis étaient au main de la sécurité à l'entrée de son terrain, qu'ils étaient entourés de personnes qui voulaient les frapper avec des pierres et qu'il ne pouvait plus rien faire pour eux. Par contre, s'il lui donnait tout l'argent qu'il avait sur lui, il le faisait sortir du terrain en lui disant de surtout pas revenir.
L'organisateur a alors demandé ce qui allait se passer pour les artistes et les festivaliers. Le propriétaire du terrain lui a répondu qu'ils n'auraient aucun problème parce que lui et les prestataires portugais allaient reprendre l'événement et organiser une free-party. L'organisateur a tant qu'il a pu chercher à s'assurer que les artistes pourraient vraiment sortir du site jusqu'à ce que le propriétaire lui dise que s'il ne partait pas maintenant, …

Enfin, les deux derniers organisateurs sont restés sur place à gérer les festivaliers, bénévoles et artistes en colère. Aidés par des stands et des prestataires français ainsi que par une partie des équipes des organisateurs qui avaient été forcés de quitter le terrain sous les menaces réelles ou fabulées, ils ont fait tout ce qu'ils ont pu pour que personne ne manque de rien et ont réussi à évacuer toutes les personnes du site. Ils ont aussi remis en place du son jusqu'au lendemain.

Nous sommes bien conscients que beaucoup de gens nous ont aidés spontanément par sympathie ou solidarité et que trop rarement, nous avons été en mesure de leur montrer notre reconnaissance trop accaparés par les problèmes que nous rencontrions.
Nous remercions toutes les personnes qui nous ont soutenu et aidé à porter des problèmes qu'ils n'avaient pas à porter, et en particulier tous les bénévoles prévus ou spontanés, Rita et le stand Sana Cooking, La Goache Family, Fabrice Crop Circle, Laser Impact, Sébastien Tekman, Neo, Hervé Morphonic. Nous remercions aussi Joao et ses runners, Suzanna, Diana et son équipe de responsable et toutes celles et ceux dont ne nous connaissons pas les noms....
Notre ingratitude a fait face à votre gratitude, et au-delà de ce que nous allons faire maintenant pour assumer nos responsabilités, puisse la Vie nous offrir la possibilité de vous rendre ce que vous nous avez donné avec beaucoup de cœur.

C'est avec une immense déception au fond de nous-même, de la fatigue et du stress accumulé ainsi que la profonde impression de s'être vraiment fait manipuler que nous avons mis ces quelques jours à réagir officiellement.

Après un temps de repos, nous prendrons progressivement contact avec les personnes envers qui nous nous étions personnellement engagés afin d'assumer nos responsabilités jusqu'au bout.
